Supermassive Games has undergone further staff reductions, with over 70 employees reportedly leaving the company this week. An IT and facilities director at the studio announced his departure on LinkedIn, stating that "more than 70 brilliant people are leaving Supermassive: developers, artists, producers, QA, operations and more." He added that "any studio would be lucky to have them" and offered to connect hiring companies with the departing staff.
The studio behind titles such as Until Dawn and Directive 8020 had previously announced a redundancy consultation process in August, indicating that "up to 75 of our colleagues" might be affected. At the time, Supermassive Games stated this was a "necessary step to ensure the sustainability of our company."
This follows a previous round of layoffs in July 2025, when up to 36 employees were let go. The studio cited a need to "adapt our team structure to better align with recent industry changes" as the reason for those cuts, which also led to a delay for the sci-fi horror game Directive 8020. That title was eventually released in May.
Directive 8020 received a mixed reception, with praise for its cast but criticism for its stealth gameplay mechanics. Supermassive Games continues to develop narrative-driven titles, and the studio hopes for stability following these recent workforce adjustments.
