Take-Two Interactive chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick has again addressed the role of the PC platform in the company's release strategy, particularly in light of Grand Theft Auto 6's initial console exclusivity. During Take-Two's recent annual shareholders meeting, Zelnick was questioned about the potential impact of hardware shortages on the planned PC release of the highly anticipated title.
Zelnick clarified the company's general approach, stating that Take-Two aims to launch titles on platforms with a significant audience over time. He acknowledged that this strategy could change if platforms become less viable. "The PC platform is becoming more and more important to our company over time," Zelnick stated, emphasizing its growing significance.
Despite these assurances, Grand Theft Auto 6 is currently slated for a console-exclusive launch. This decision has led to some confusion among PC gamers, especially following Zelnick's earlier remarks in May. At that time, he noted that PC sales could constitute up to half of major game releases, but explained GTA 6's console debut was due to a focus on "serving the core consumer." This statement was perceived as contradictory by some, given the PC market's substantial contribution to sales.
The company continues to support Grand Theft Auto 5 Online, which Zelnick described as a "robust business." Regarding GTA 6's multiplayer component, there are external suggestions, such as from the CEO of Twitch, that it might launch in 2025, though the certainty of this information is unclear.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S on November 19. A PC release is expected at a later, yet unspecified, date.
