Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has stated that the company will not be releasing specific preorder numbers for Grand Theft Auto 6, despite unprecedented demand. Zelnick explained in an interview with Bloomberg that the massive volume of preorders "vastly" surpassed internal expectations, but he expressed uncertainty about what these numbers truly signify.

"The massive demand for preorders we’ve seen to date could reflect a pull forward of sales that otherwise would materialize in the fullness of time," Zelnick said, suggesting that early preorder figures might not accurately represent long-term sales potential. He further elaborated that sharing raw preorder data could potentially mislead investors, which is why Take-Two has opted not to disclose them.

During a recent earnings call, Zelnick reiterated that the preorder figures for GTA 6 are unlike anything the company has previously experienced. He emphasized that "no one’s ever seen anything like this before at Take-Two, or in the industry," while also noting that "To be clear, we haven’t sold one unit yet. You can cancel a preorder."

Grand Theft Auto 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Take-Two recently reaffirmed that the game has not experienced further delays. Management also defended the game's $80 price point, describing it as offering "phenomenal value." The title is anticipated to be the biggest game of 2026, with potential for additional growth tied to a future evolution of GTA Online.
