Talon Towers, a new parkour platformer, is drawing comparisons to the works of Fumito Ueda, the acclaimed designer behind games like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian. The game is set atop massive, dilapidated structures that disappear into an endless, foggy expanse.
The title is the latest project from Jan Malitschek, who previously developed the first-person climbing platformer Beton Brutal. He is collaborating with Quinn K. from Blanksword and Hyphinett from If Found. The developers are aiming for an aesthetic that evokes the mood and scale often found in Ueda's games, featuring ancient-looking towers with complex, interconnected structures perfect for traversal.
Talon Towers emphasizes a wide range of player movement abilities, including running, climbing, swinging, wall-running, wall-kicking, tightrope walking, crouching, and crawling. The gameplay showcased suggests a challenging and expressive platforming experience, with narrow ledges and significant heights being central to the design.
Beyond platforming, the game appears to incorporate elements of pursuit and environmental storytelling. One section of a recently released showcase video depicts the player character being chased by an ominous figure, reminiscent of chase sequences in games like Celeste. The game also features moments where players can control a bird and may incorporate narrative elements similar to those in Ico.
Talon Towers is available to wishlist on Steam and will be released when development is complete.
