Tapestry Blends Grand Strategy With Multiplayer Mayhem

Tapestry is an upcoming turn-based strategy game that seeks to meld the methodical planning of grand strategy titles with the immediate engagement of multiplayer competition. The game features a distinct painterly art style, characterized by what the developers describe as "deliciously choppy character animations."

Players will choose from four distinct factions, each with unique strengths and weaknesses. These include a rebel group specializing in traps and long-range combat, an empire of swift and powerful warriors, an army of the undead, and a contingent of knights adept with catapults and cavalry.

A core mechanic involves players plotting their victory from the outset of each match. This is achieved by placing banners at specific points in a turn order, locking in actions from the beginning of the game. This approach is designed to streamline gameplay and prevent lengthy decision-making processes that can sometimes plague the genre. Combat resolution relies on dice rolls, with each faction possessing a unique set of dice that can be influenced by items and the initial strategic planning.

Player interaction extends beyond combat, with private one-to-one chat options allowing for alliances or deception. While these conversations are private, other players can observe the act of communication, adding a layer of potential mistrust.

One notable feature is the game's cinematic mode, which allows players to zoom into the battlefield to observe their units in action, aiming to foster a greater connection with them. The game's aesthetic emphasizes a tactile feel, with individual soldiers appearing as if hand-painted. Upon the conclusion of a match, the game's events are documented on a visual tapestry, summarizing the match's progression.

Tapestry is currently seeking funding on Kickstarter, with a Steam wishlist option also available for those interested.
