Tearoom of Terror Offers Cozy Gothic Murder Mystery While We Wait for Haunted Chocolatier

While the highly anticipated "Haunted Chocolatier" from ConcernedApe remains without a firm release date, the upcoming Steam title "Tearoom of Terror" presents a compelling alternative for players seeking a blend of cozy simulation and unsettling mystery. Developed by Sundew Studios, the game was recently showcased during the Cozy After Dark Showcase, presented by the nonprofit Dames 4 Games.

Similar to "Haunted Chocolatier," which will allow players to craft and sell chocolates, "Tearoom of Terror" focuses on the soothing actions of preparing tea and serving scones to a cast of eccentric characters. However, this seemingly idyllic Victorian tea parlor harbors a dark secret. As revealed by Sundew Studios writer and designer Allie Ast, players are not just managing a business but are also the primary suspect in their aunt's murder. This twist introduces deduction and investigation elements, reminiscent of games like "The Séance of Blake Manor," but with a more personal stake in the outcome.

Players will need to "find the true culprit, or instead of serving scones, you'll be serving time," Ast warned during the showcase. The gameplay loop involves maintaining the charm of a Victorian tea parlor while navigating the complexities of a murder investigation. The game suggests that players may need to resort to unconventional methods to manage their "immoral" clientele and escape incarceration, hinting at mechanics that involve potentially nefarious ingredients or tactics. A demo for "Tearoom of Terror" is currently available on Steam, offering a glimpse into its unique blend of "cozy gothic murder mystery."
