Techland CEO Confirms End of Support for Dying Light: The Beast

Techland CEO Paweł Marchewka has announced an end to support for Dying Light: The Beast, a standalone release that arrived last year. Speaking during a Discord AMA, Marchewka clarified that the game was designed as a self-contained experience and will not receive substantial new content moving forward.

"Dying Light: The Beast is a complete game, and that’s how players should approach it — much like Dying Light 1 is today," Marchewka stated, as reported by Insider Gaming. "We’re not planning substantial new content for it."

While Techland did not initially plan for long-term support, the studio did provide free updates for The Beast over the past year, including the "Restored Land" update, new weapons, and other content. Marchewka explained that the company's five-year support model has not been as effective as hoped, particularly for an AAA studio aiming to push boundaries with new titles.

"Supporting existing games for years with smaller teams can seriously disrupt work on new projects," Marchewka said. He elaborated that the expectation of frequent, substantial, and high-quality updates, often for free, can strain resources and potentially lead to disappointment if production is impacted.

Techland's focus will now shift more toward supporting Dying Light 2, which has a dedicated team working on its updates. The company's planned fantasy RPG project was canceled last year, and the studio's future projects remain undisclosed. Earlier this year, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of Dying Light: The Beast were also canceled due to technical realities.
