James Cameron's 1991 science fiction classic, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, is returning to cinemas worldwide to commemorate its 35th anniversary. The film, originally released on August 29, 1991, will be brought back to the big screen by StudioCanal, Fathom Entertainment, and Rialto Pictures, with U.S. theatrical showings commencing on August 28. Global release dates are set to vary between late August and early September.

Widely regarded as the best installment in the six-film franchise, Terminator 2 has achieved over $500 million at the global box office across its previous re-releases. Director James Cameron expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming screenings, stating that the film was "made for theaters" and that the "lovingly-prepared 3D version" offers the definitive viewing experience. He also playfully noted the film's enduring message of hope, with the "good guys win[ning] against the AI superintelligence."

Even after three and a half decades, Terminator 2 remains a significant cinematic achievement. The film's narrative innovation, particularly its subversion of audience expectations by casting Arnold Schwarzenegger's killer robot as the hero, continues to resonate. The sequel surpasses its predecessor in multiple aspects, with strong performances from Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton reprising their roles. Robert Patrick's portrayal of the menacing T-1000 is a standout element.

The re-release will feature screenings in 4K resolution and RealD 3D, utilizing StudioCanal's 2017 restoration of the film. The schedule for the global theatrical return is as follows:

August 27: Germany, Latin America, and Czech Republic August 28: U.S., Italy, and Poland September 2: France September 3: Australia, New Zealand, Netherlands, Sweden, and Hungary September 4: United Kingdom
