Terranigma, a Super Nintendo JRPG originally released in 1995, is set to receive its first official release in North America in early 2027. The game, developed by Quintet and published by Enix in Japan and Nintendo in PAL territories, has long been a sought-after title for fans in the region due to its previous exclusion from the North American market.
This action RPG is the third and final entry in the "Soul Blazer trilogy," following Soul Blazer and Illusion of Gaia. Terranigma tells the story of Ark, a boy tasked with a world-spanning quest to restore life to a desolate Earth following a cataclysmic divine conflict. The game is widely praised for its narrative, musical score, and dynamic combat.
Developer Clear River Games is handling the modern port, promising "a host of upgrades, tweaks and bonus features" aimed at appealing to contemporary players. While specific enhancements have not yet been detailed, original artist Kamui Fujiwara has contributed new in-game designs and key art, and provided feedback on the project. Fujiwara expressed his delight at the game's return, stating his hope that its themes of creation, destruction, and the relationship between humanity and divinity will resonate with a new audience.
Terranigma will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC in early 2027. It will be offered in both digital and physical formats.
