Square Enix has released an update for The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales that allows players to entirely disable the voice of the companion fairy, Faie. This change comes in response to considerable player and critic feedback regarding the character's constant and often irritating dialogue.
The update, now available on Steam, adds an option to "turn off support character voice." This follows an earlier attempt by the developers to mitigate the issue by introducing a "Reticent" setting for "Partner Chattiness" in the game's options menu. However, players and reviewers found that even this setting did not sufficiently reduce Faie's vocalizations.
Producer Naofumi Matsushita acknowledged that the development team may have become biased towards Faie due to their long involvement with the game. While Faie does offer commentary on in-game environments, treasures, and player achievements, her more repetitive and intrusive lines, such as exclamations upon entering water or questions after taking damage, were a frequent point of contention.
The addition of a full voice-off option provides players with greater control over their auditory experience. While some may find value in Faie's occasional insights, those who prefer a quieter adventure now have the means to achieve it by downloading the latest patch.
