Paramount has released the first trailer for The Angry Birds Movie 3, which reveals that the titular Red is now a father and features a significant amount of bathroom humor. The film is slated for theatrical release on December 23.

The trailer opens with a stadium scene, quickly shifting focus to themes of parenthood. It touches on common struggles such as dealing with emotionally distant teenagers, a baby prone to self-endangerment, a joke about limiting children's soda intake, and a chaotic diaper change.

The announcement of a third film in the Angry Birds franchise followed two years after its initial reveal on the Angry Birds YouTube page. This continuation of a movie series based on a mobile game primarily focused on launching birds at structures highlights the financial success of the previous installments.

The original The Angry Birds Movie, released in 2016, received mixed reviews but achieved a worldwide gross of $352.3 million. Its success was attributed to its star-studded voice cast, including Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Sean Penn, Keegan-Michael Key, and Bill Hader, and potentially its release timing as one of the few animated options available.

Its sequel, which depicted a truce between the birds and the pigs, garnered more positive critical reception. While its box office performance was less than the first film, it proved popular on Netflix, leading to the animated television series Angry Birds: Summer Madness.

Paramount has taken over distribution duties from Sony for this latest installment. Jason Sudeikis is set to reprise his role as Red, joined by returning cast members Josh Gad, Danny McBride, and Rachel Bloom. New additions to the cast include Tim Robinson and internet personality MrBeast.

While unlikely to match the box office success of films like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which has surpassed a billion dollars worldwide and stands as the highest-grossing film of 2026, the continued audience for video game adaptations is evident. The Angry Birds Movie 3 will test this appeal when it arrives later this year, exploring Red's journey into fatherhood.
