Robert Pattinson has indicated that The Batman Part 2 will diverge significantly from the tone and style of its predecessor. Speaking about the upcoming sequel, Pattinson described the script penned by co-writer and director Matt Reeves as a "radical retelling of Batman."

Pattinson, who is set to reprise his role as Bruce Wayne, suggested that the creative team aimed for a departure from the established formula. "I think the first one was… it’s difficult to reinvent Batman as this new thing. And then to go in another totally different direction," he stated. "It looks different to the first one."

The actor emphasized the script's significant changes, calling it "a quite radical change of the script." He also expressed gratitude for Warner Bros. and DC's support for this new approach, noting, "It's just crazy. It’s a really radical retelling of Batman. I think people are going to be excited by it."

While specific plot details remain scarce, Pattinson's comments hint at a potentially substantial shift from the dark, gritty detective narrative of the 2022 film. The nature of this new direction is unclear, with speculation ranging from psychological thriller elements to a focus on a new primary antagonist. The confirmation of Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent/Two-Face, a popular fan theory, has yet to be officially announced, leaving the villainous landscape of the sequel open to interpretation.

Pattinson also shared insights into the physical demands of the role, noting that the fight choreography in The Batman Part 2 is proving more challenging as he ages. "I’m definitely feeling my age when fighting a lot," he told GQ. "I’m literally like, ‘Goddamn, this is significantly harder than it used to be.’ But it’s really fun. And I think the movie’s going to be pretty great."

It is important to note that Matt Reeves' Batman films exist within their own continuity, separate from the main DC Universe. This "The Batman Epic Crime Saga" includes the upcoming HBO spinoff series The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell. Farrell, who will reprise his role as the Penguin in just two scenes of The Batman Part 2, praised Reeves' script, describing it as "a contemporary genre masterpiece" that is both "dark and at times terrifying" and "psychologically weighty and nuanced."
