Production on "The Batman Part 2" has been temporarily halted as director Matt Reeves steps away from the project to attend to a family matter. DC Studios and Warner Bros. confirmed the news in a statement to Deadline, expressing their full support for Reeves and their anticipation for continuing the film's journey soon.
This pause comes after the production had already faced multiple delays. The first "Batman" film, released in 2022, also navigated production challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, eventually becoming a critical and commercial success. "The Batman Part 2" had been scheduled for an October 2025 release, but was later pushed to early 2028. Filming for the sequel had commenced earlier this summer, making the current production halt an unexpected development.
It remains unclear whether Reeves is expected to return to direct or if a replacement will be sought. Sources indicate it is too early to determine if this halt will result in further delays to the film's release date.
"The Batman Part 2" is slated to star Robert Pattinson, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Charles Dance, and Colin Farrell, among other notable actors.
