Vampiric RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker, developed by a team including veterans of CD Projekt, has seen a rocky launch on PC, with players reporting several significant issues. While the game has achieved a respectable 84 on Metacritic and 75 percent positive reviews on Steam from over 1,400 players, developers Rebel Wolves have acknowledged and begun addressing the most common complaints. The studio has also offered temporary workarounds for some of these problems.
Addressing Major PC Concerns
Rebel Wolves outlined four primary issues on their X account, providing potential solutions where available. One of the most critical problems, a game crash during the initial shader compilation, can reportedly be resolved by updating the system's BIOS. This issue is noted to be particularly prevalent on Intel Core CPUs and is linked to conflicts between the game's Oodle engine and Unreal Engine, a problem Intel had previously identified.
For players experiencing stuttering when the game is in Windowed or Borderless mode, the current recommendation is to launch the game in Full Screen. This solution is described as less than ideal, with hopes for future optimization.
A fix for the inability to remap buttons on a PS5 gamepad is actively being worked on. Similarly, the developers are addressing an issue where sprinting stops when changing directions on a gamepad. As a temporary measure for the latter, players can try adjusting their controller sensitivity from 1 to 0.8 within console settings.
Unaddressed Issues and Future Hopes
Beyond the four main points, players have also raised concerns about the lack of basic accessibility options. Specifically, the small UI text and subtitles, which currently cannot be scaled, are a point of frustration for some. Rebel Wolves have yet to comment on these accessibility complaints, but it is hoped they will be addressed in a future update.
The developers have indicated that the console versions of The Blood of Dawnwalker have launched more smoothly than the PC version. The game's performance and stability on PC will likely be a focus for Rebel Wolves in the coming weeks as they work towards releasing patches to improve the player experience.
