Developer Rebel Wolves is preparing the first major post-launch update for its action RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, which is expected to arrive in early October. The patch will introduce a new, easier difficulty option and implement several quality-of-life improvements.
Game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz stated in an interview with Eurogamer that the new difficulty mode aims to cater to players who wish to experience the game's narrative without the demanding combat. The existing Story mode will be renamed to 'Demanding' or a similar designation, while a new, more accessible Story mode will be added. "We will introduce an additional difficulty level, but an easier one, because many people are asking for a more easy difficulty," Tomaszkiewicz explained.
The update will also streamline the experience of escaping from combat. Currently, players can become caught on environmental geometry when attempting to flee. The upcoming patch will allow players to ignore the navigation mesh when running or escaping, making the process more fluid. Tomaszkiewicz acknowledged that this oversight occurred because the development team itself rarely needed to disengage from fights.
Changes are also coming to the game's combat abilities. Specifically, a change where the camera automatically switches targets after stunning an enemy will be reverted. This was an unintended consequence of a change made to prevent players from accidentally hitting a stunned opponent. Post-patch, it will require three hits to remove a stun from an enemy, though this may be subject to further feedback.
Rebel Wolves is also addressing PC performance issues. Tomaszkiewicz attributed the problems to the wide variety of hardware configurations and confirmed that the team is actively monitoring the situation and implementing fixes. He also commented on player demands for extremely high frame rates, noting that while the team is working on performance, the game's focus is not on the high-speed action typical of shooters.
While not confirmed, a New Game Plus mode is reportedly under consideration, which could potentially include new enemy types. Tomaszkiewicz indicated that further details would be shared following discussions with the publishing team.
