Rebel Wolves has detailed Update 1.1 for its vampire RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, an update that adds a unique feature inspired by the game's directional combat system: directional animal petting. The RPG, which positions players between monster and man, will soon allow players to engage in detailed interactions with canine and feline companions.
The studio confirmed the feature on social media, posing the question of what happens when a directional combat system is merged with the ability to pet animals, answering with "Directional. Animal. Petting." This system mirrors the game's combat mechanics, which rely on directional inputs for both attacking and defending.
Beyond its peculiar new feature, Update 1.1 brings a consumable item called the Draught of Mind Rebirth, enabling players to respec their upgrade points and experiment with different character builds without the need to start a new game. For players who found the directional combat challenging, an easier difficulty setting will be introduced. Additionally, the update addresses accessibility with options for larger subtitle font sizes.
Visual enhancements are also a significant part of this patch, including improvements to frame generation, animations, camera movement, and targeting systems. The Japanese version of the game will also see the restoration of its blood and gore content. Rebel Wolves stated that the update comprises over 1,100 improvements and fixes, demonstrating a strong commitment to the game's ongoing development. The studio views The Blood of Dawnwalker as the foundation for a larger RPG series, having already released a CGI trailer that hints at the character Coen's future. The game achieved considerable success shortly after launch, selling over 1 million copies in its first two days, which suggests further installments are likely.
