The Blood of Dawnwalker Update Adds Directional Petting and Easier Story Mode

Rebel Wolves has announced that the first major update for its vampire RPG, The Blood of Dawnwalker, will introduce "directional animal petting" and a new, more accessible Story mode. The update, version 1.1, will also bring a host of other improvements, including enhanced combat targeting and the ability to reallocate skill points.

Directional Petting and New Story Mode

The concept of directional animal petting stems from the game's existing directional combat system, which is inspired by titles like Kingdom Come: Deliverance. Rebel Wolves teased the feature on X, asking, "What happens when you merge a directional combat system with an ability to pet dogs and cats?" The answer, they revealed, is "Directional. Animal. Petting."

Beyond the unique petting mechanic, update 1.1 will also add a new Story mode designed for players who wish to focus on the narrative and decision-making rather than mastering the game's combat. This new mode will feature "additional combat assist" and will not replace the existing difficulty, which will be renamed "Forgiving."

Other Notable Additions

Players will also gain the ability to reallocate their skill points using the Draught of Mind Rebirth. Smaller gameplay enhancements in version 1.1 include improvements to combat targeting, traversal, camera controls, and updates to the game's FrameGen technology. Rebel Wolves states that the update will comprise approximately 1100 changes.

The Blood of Dawnwalker has seen considerable success, selling 1 million copies in its first three days. Rebel Wolves has also confirmed that development is underway for a sequel, though the divisive time mechanic from the first game may not feature in future installments.
