The Board's Dialogue in Control Resonant Is Deliberate Gibberish, Remedy Explains

The mysterious entity known as The Board in Remedy Entertainment's Control Resonant speaks in deliberate gibberish, according to audio lead Lucas Pierrot. This design choice allows players to project their own interpretations onto the character's unsettling pronouncements, whether they wish to hear praise or disdain.

Pierrot explained in an interview that The Board's dialogue is not tied to any specific language, enabling players to "hear what you want to hear." This means a player might perceive The Board as congratulatory after a successful combat maneuver, perhaps hearing "Absolute cinema, Combo!" Conversely, another player might interpret the same sounds as expressions of contempt for a defeated foe.

While the speech is intentionally incomprehensible, Remedy has implemented a partial language structure. This subtle linguistic framework is intended to give The Board a sense of intelligence, contributing to its perceived nature as "scary, unsettling, or even funny sometimes." A key element of its audio design is "the pulse," described as a "low, soft kick" used to punctuate certain sounds and provide rhythm and weight to its speech, effectively articulating sentences without explicit meaning.

Remedy Entertainment has continued to update Control Resonant since its launch in September. The game has been praised for various elements, including its atmospheric 'scary buses,' intricate background details, and improvements over its predecessor.
