The Citadel Project, a dark fantasy stealth game drawing inspiration from Thief, is set to launch in early access on November 11. Developed by a single individual, the game blends immersive sim elements with survival-horror lite mechanics within a sprawling medieval megastructure.
The Citadel Project places players in the role of a prisoner who escapes from a cell deep within the titular Citadel, humanity's last bastion against a cataclysmic event known as the Great Storm. An unspecified evil force is corrupting the structure from within, and the player must navigate its depths to uncover the cause.
The game emphasizes atmosphere, particularly its use of shadows for stealth gameplay. Players will utilize a crossbow as their primary weapon, equipped with various bolt types. These include fire bolts for damaging enemies, rope bolts for traversal, decoy bolts for distraction, and a moss bolt, speculated to aid in silent movement.
Enemies in The Citadel Project appear to be infected with parasites, and severing these growths is presented as a key combat mechanic. A demo for The Citadel Project is available on Steam, with the early access launch scheduled for November 11.
