Massive Entertainment has announced that The Division series has amassed over 50 million players across its titles, coinciding with the franchise's 10th anniversary. The franchise, which began with the launch of The Division in 2016, has seen substantial growth since its initial E3 2013 reveal.
The Division 2 was released in 2019, and while its initial sales did not meet Ubisoft's expectations, the series has continued to evolve with various spinoffs and updates.
New Content and Future Development
Massive Entertainment recently revealed a new downloadable content pack for The Division 2, titled "Echoes of Central Park," set to release on November 3. This expansion will introduce a horror-themed flashback campaign, increased stash space, and a level boost, aiming to draw both new and returning players back into the game.
Furthermore, Tom Clancy's The Division 3 is officially in development at Massive Entertainment. While initially overseen by executive producer Julian Gerighty, the project is now under the direction of creative director Mathias Karlson, who previously served as game director for The Division 2. Gerighty recently departed Ubisoft to join Battlefield developer DICE.
Gerighty had previously expressed optimism about The Division 3, stating that it was shaping up to be a significant title with the potential to make an impact comparable to the first game. Following his departure, Massive Entertainment reassured fans that the development of The Division 3 remains on track and in capable hands, with the core team committed to the franchise's future.
Ubisoft is prioritizing The Division franchise, with Massive Entertainment having recently implemented a "voluntary career transition program" to focus its efforts on the series and its proprietary Snowdrop game engine. Details regarding The Division 3's release date have not yet been announced.
