Ubisoft's free-to-play looter shooter, Tom Clancy's The Division Resurgence, launched on Steam on August 5, but has since faced significant criticism from players. The PC port, which originally released on Android and iOS on March 31, has been met with a 'Mixed' user review rating on Valve's platform, with only 45 percent of reviews being positive.
Players are primarily taking issue with the game's user interface and its monetization model. Reviewers have pointed to "heavy menu clutter, Loot boxes, and monetization shortcuts that definitely scream Pay-to-win." The UI, in particular, appears to be a direct port from the mobile version, leading to a clunky experience on PC. The game's recommended specifications, which feature GPUs from 2019, also suggest a minimal effort was made to optimize or modernize the PC version beyond a basic port.
The Division Resurgence was initially revealed as a mobile-exclusive title in July 2022. Following a successful mobile launch, Ubisoft later decided to bring the game to PC. However, the execution of this port has drawn ire, especially considering that the original The Division was available for less than $3 earlier this year. Critics question the decision to invest in a microtransaction-heavy PC port of a spin-off when the main series' earlier entries are so accessible.
