The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel has been officially named and its location revealed, but Bethesda has cautioned that the game is still a significant distance from release. In a social media post, the studio stated, "Development continues, and while it'll be some time before we're ready to share more, it feels great to finally reveal the name and location with you."
This "some time" suggests a considerable wait, with Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier indicating on Bluesky that the game is "still more than two years away." Schreier further asserted that this is not a prediction but rather based on knowledge of the game's target timeframe.
This extended development period is understandable given Bethesda's priorities. Director Todd Howard previously mentioned that The Elder Scrolls 6 was in pre-production while Starfield was undergoing full production. Starfield, which was Bethesda's primary focus leading up to its 2023 launch, occupied the studio for several years. Howard had humorously remarked that the studio's early announcement of The Elder Scrolls 6 was a response to constant fan inquiries, suggesting it might have been better to keep it under wraps until development was further along.
The announcement of the game's name and setting follows a long period of silence since its initial reveal eight years ago. This eight-year span mirrors the development time for some of Bethesda's earlier titles, such as Arena and Daggerfall, or the gap between Oblivion and The Elder Scrolls Online, which saw the release of Skyrim and its expansions in between. Players hoping for a swift journey to Hammerfell will likely need to exercise significant patience.
