Bethesda Game Studios has revealed the subtitle for the upcoming The Elder Scrolls 6, officially titled The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel. Alongside the new title, a teaser image featuring an elder scroll buried in sand, coupled with a quote from a character associated with Hammerfell, strongly suggests the game will be set in the Redguards' homeland.

These details emerged during a video celebrating Bethesda Game Studios' 40th anniversary, where studio director Todd Howard looked towards the future. "You know, everybody’s always asking about Elder Scrolls 6," Howard stated. "And we thought, hey, given the moment, what a perfect time to tell you what The Elder Scrolls 6 is actually called."

The teaser showed an elder scroll partially buried in sand, followed by the game's logo. A quote attributed to a moth priest named Yazar read, "The scroll offered only a shimmer, a veil thinly lifted to my eyes. A future lost. A victory undone. Sands of time scattered by fate." This imagery and quote, along with Yazar's description as a moth priest serving High Queen Iradne of Hammerfell, reinforce previous reports that the game will take place in this province. The inclusion of an elder scroll also hints at a narrative focus on unraveling secrets related to these artifacts, as suggested by The Verge report.

The subtitle "Sentinel" itself refers to a kingdom and city within Hammerfell. The potential narrative threads, including undone victories, could tie into the events following the fracturing of the Cyrodilic empire and the rise of the Thalmor, as hinted at in Skyrim. This reveal also means an end to the prolonged use of the studio's 2018 teaser image of rolling hills as the primary visual representation for The Elder Scrolls 6.

This news comes amidst significant restructuring at Bethesda's parent company, Microsoft, which has seen widespread layoffs and the closure of several studios. Microsoft is also facing a boycott movement over alleged ties to the Israeli military.
