A new report indicates that the title for the highly anticipated The Elder Scrolls 6 may be revealed as soon as next month, potentially confirming long-standing fan theories. The information comes from sources speaking with The Verge, who suggest the game will be subtitled "Sentinel."
This potential reveal would arrive nearly eight years after The Elder Scrolls 6 was first announced at E3 2018 and over 15 years after its predecessor, Skyrim, was released. The "Sentinel" subtitle aligns with fan speculation from earlier this year. The report also ties into a cryptic August tease from Xbox head Asha Sharma, who hinted that the title contained eight letters, a detail that fits "Sentinel."
Sources also corroborate previous rumors that the game will focus on the region of Hammerfell, a location that has appeared in previous Elder Scrolls spin-off titles but has not yet been the sole setting for a mainline game. The game is reportedly set to explore "the history of the Elder Scrolls" and "uncover the secrets of these mysterious ancient artifacts."
Bethesda has remained largely silent on The Elder Scrolls 6 since its initial early announcement. While Bethesda head Todd Howard has offered occasional vague updates, concrete details have been scarce. In July, Howard stated it was "too early to comment" on potential platforms for the game, a response to questions about exclusivity following Microsoft's acquisition of Bethesda.
However, also in July, Bethesda developers expressed concerns that recent mass layoffs across Xbox, impacting Bethesda, could have a "substantial and cascading effect" on the game's development and team morale.
