Bethesda has officially revealed the name of its next major RPG: The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. The announcement comes more than eight years after the game was first teased at E3 2018. However, fans eager for a release date will be disappointed, as Bethesda indicated that the game is still at least two years away from launch.

In a statement accompanying the "Official Name Reveal" trailer, Bethesda shared on X that "Development continues, and while it’ll be some time before we’re ready to share more, it feels great to finally reveal the name and location with you." This suggests that any hopes of an imminent release were premature.

Jason Schreier of Bloomberg has reported that the initial tease in 2018 was intended to temper fan reactions to the launch of Fallout 76, rather than signaling The Elder Scrolls VI's proximity to completion. Schreier reiterated that the game is "still more than two years away."

Despite the distant release window, both Bethesda and Xbox CEO Asha Sharma have confirmed that The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel is in a playable state. Sharma shared in August that she had received a live demonstration of the game, even teasing the subtitle with a series of asterisks that sparked significant fan speculation.
