The universe of The Expanse is expanding into interactive entertainment with The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, a new video game from developer Owlcat Games slated for a spring 2027 release. The title was initially revealed at the 2025 Future Games Expo and recently received a significant showing at Gamescom, where a new trailer and hands-on previews were presented to attendees.

Osiris Reborn is set to take place during the events of the first three seasons of the Prime Video television series, and between the novels Leviathan Wakes and Caliban's War. The game will delve into the complex interplanetary politics of a solar system teetering on the edge of conflict. While familiar characters such as Captain James Holden, voiced and visually represented by Steven Strait, will make appearances, the game primarily focuses on a customizable mercenary protagonist experiencing these unfolding events in real-time. Players will not require prior knowledge of the franchise to engage with the narrative.

Owlcat Games has collaborated with former NASA astronaut and International Space Station commander Leroy Chiao to ensure the accuracy of the game's space-faring elements. This includes the implementation of magnetic boots, which allow for controlled movement in zero-gravity environments by anchoring characters to ship surfaces. "We hope that our approach to blending realism with gameplay considerations will make players experience something engaging and truly immersive," stated Yuliya Chernenko, game design producer for Osiris Reborn.

Early previews suggest that the game captures the core themes of The Expanse, emphasizing the political and human elements driving conflict over sheer combat. The developers aim to replicate the series' nuanced approach, where characters often seek non-violent resolutions. This focus on player choice and consequence positions Osiris Reborn as an immersive sim with a gameplay loop akin to the Hitman series, where strategic decision-making is as crucial as precise execution.

Fans eager to experience The Expanse: Osiris Reborn before its official launch can gain beta access by purchasing either the Miller's Pack for $79.99 or the Collector's Edition for $289. These pre-order options are available on the game's official website and grant access to the beta until the full release in spring 2027.
