Fans of The Legend of Zelda series have a busy period ahead, with a remake of 1998's Ocarina of Time featuring modernized visuals, free camera controls, and fully voiced cutscenes set for a November release. Demand for related merchandise, such as a potential Zelda 40th-anniversary edition of the Nintendo Switch 2, has already proven exceptionally high, making preorders virtually impossible to secure.
The original The Legend of Zelda debuted in 1986, but Ocarina of Time is often cited as the title that resonated most deeply with a generation. Decades after its release, it maintains a near-perfect Metacritic score of 99. Now, a new project seeks to expand the narrative of this seminal game.
Echoes of Hyrule Explores a Familiar Story Anew
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Hyrule, a 332-page novel scheduled for release in May 2027, offers a reimagining of the classic adventure from the viewpoints of characters beyond the main protagonist. The book follows a chronological narrative, beginning before the events of Ocarina of Time and continuing after its conclusion, delving into the subsequent fates of Hyrule and its inhabitants. While Link remains a character, his role shifts to that of a narrative catalyst for the stories of others.
The novel will be available in two hardcover editions. The Standard Deluxe Edition, priced at €25.95 (approximately $29.28 USD), includes the book, an Ocarina of Time GP Card print, and two exclusive bookmarks. For €35.95 (approximately $40.49 USD), the Hero of Time Edition adds an Ocarina manual, character map, art sheets, and a numbered certificate of authenticity to the Standard Deluxe package.
Published by Game Press and not officially affiliated with Nintendo, Echoes of Hyrule is penned by longtime fan Anna-Victòria Teixidó, writing as "Kurusonna." The project also features a prologue by Carlos "Seijurou" Martínez, interior illustrations by María "Maiku" Lozano, and a cover design by Víctor Polonio. Preorders for both editions are currently open on the Game Press website.
