Nintendo and Columbia Pictures have unveiled the first trailer for their highly anticipated live-action The Legend of Zelda movie. The reveal occurred during a Nintendo Direct event celebrating the 40th anniversary of the iconic game series. The film, which stars Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda and Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link, will simply be titled "The Legend of Zelda."

Producer Shigeru Miyamoto indicated during the presentation that the straightforward title has a specific narrative purpose that will become apparent upon viewing the film. While details remain scarce, Miyamoto suggested that the movie will draw upon the entirety of the series' 40-year legacy, rather than adapting a single game.

Filming for the adaptation recently concluded in New Zealand, following its commencement in October 2025. Wes Ball, known for directing "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" and "The Maze Runner," is at the helm of the project. The film is slated for a theatrical release, after which it will be available for streaming on Netflix, though a specific streaming date has not yet been announced.

For audiences eager to see the young lead actors in other projects, Benjamin Evan Ainsworth played a significant role as Daeron Targaryen in "House of the Dragon" Season 3. Ainsworth was eight years old when "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" was released, and he will be 18 when the film premieres on April 30, 2027. This release date marks a decade since the debut of "Breath of the Wild" on the Nintendo Switch.

Further information regarding the plot and an official release date for the trailer on platforms like YouTube is expected at a later time.
