After years of speculation, Nintendo has officially announced a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console, slated for a 2026 release.
The original Ocarina of Time launched in 1998 for the Nintendo 64 and is widely regarded as one of the most critically acclaimed and influential video games ever made. A new trailer offered a brief glimpse of the game, featuring a voiceover discussing the Kokiri, followed by a shot of a sleeping Link with a Triforce symbol glowing on his hand, before revealing the game's modern logo.
This marks the second full remake of the beloved title. Previously, Ocarina of Time was rebuilt for the Nintendo 3DS in 2011 by developer Grezzo. That version included updated graphics, motion controls, stereoscopic 3D visuals, and the challenging Master Quest content.
Ocarina of Time has seen numerous re-releases and ports throughout its history. In 2002, a version was included with GameCube reservations alongside The Wind Waker, featuring both the original game and the Master Quest variant. It was also part of The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition compilation for GameCube and has been available on Wii and Wii U Virtual Consoles. Currently, the game can be played on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 through the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service.
The announcement of the Switch 2 remake was part of a larger Nintendo Direct presentation, which also revealed details on Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, and a new Pokopia update.
