First hands-on previews for the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 have emerged, alongside an overview trailer, detailing several modifications to the Nintendo 64 classic. These previews offer a deeper look into the nuances of the updated version, extending beyond the previously shown early game sections.
One notable adjustment is the starting wallet capacity, which has been increased to hold 200 rupees, a significant jump from the original game's 99-rupee limit. This previously required players to collect 10 Gold Skulltula Tokens to unlock an upgrade. The reward for completing this task in the remake remains unclear.
Dungeons have also undergone extensive tweaking. The Forest Temple, for instance, features significant overhauls, including changes to puzzle mechanics and aesthetic renovations such as color-coded motifs to help players navigate different sections. A bottomless pit in one mini-boss fight has been replaced with a pool of acid, and an elevator shaft has been added to reduce backtracking.
Link's inventory will see an expansion with the addition of a fifth bottle. In the original title, obtaining the fourth bottle required collecting Big Poes across Hyrule Field. It is currently unknown if the fifth bottle will be acquired through normal gameplay progression or if it necessitates a new puzzle or mini-challenge.
A new area called The Hall of Fallen Foes has been introduced, displaying all defeated enemies. The owl character Kaepora Gaebora will reportedly transport players to and from this location, allowing for rematches against bosses like Dodongo and Shadow Link. While the existence of additional unlockable rewards is uncertain, each boss fight will include a time trial counter.
NPC interactions have also been expanded, with characters like Navi offering more dialogue. During exploration, Navi may now freeze the game to provide lore about enemies, such as the Peahat Larva. Other NPCs have reportedly received additional lines of dialogue that enhance world-building compared to the original game.
