Nintendo has revealed the first substantial look at its remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, confirming a November 5, 2026 release date for the highly anticipated title. The new footage showcases a visually updated Hyrule with a stylized realism, featuring detailed character models and environments. "Looks like Nintendo’s gone with a pretty detailed look this time," according to Kotaku. Link's iconic green tunic and hat have been rendered with new fidelity.
Key gameplay enhancements include a dedicated jump button and a free camera system, offering players more control and immersion. Link can now dive underwater and swim, expanding traversal options. A new sprint mechanic allows Link to move faster by rolling into a dash. Notably, time continues to progress even when Link is within town areas. Producer Eiji Aonuma described the remake as a "faithful interpretation using modern technologies," emphasizing that it offers a "different appeal from other [Zelda games] like Breath of the Wild."
A significant new feature introduced in this remake is the ability to use the Nintendo Switch 2's microphone. Players can hum, sing, or play notes into the microphone, and if Link recognizes the tune, he will play it on his ocarina. This functionality provides an alternative to memorizing button combinations for songs, allowing players to perform melodies by simply knowing and vocalizing them.
This marks the first detailed glimpse of the remake since its initial reveal in June, which featured a lengthy, mural-based presentation culminating in a single image of Link asleep. The new information provides clarity on the scope and direction of the remake, positioning it as a modern take on the N64 classic.
