The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake Shows Off Dark Link's Return

The upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has offered a glimpse at how one of the original game's most memorable moments will be presented. Recent previews and trailers have highlighted several updates, but a short teaser on the Nintendo Japan website prominently features the return of Dark Link, the enigmatic doppelgänger Link faces in the Water Temple.

This brief clip showcases Dark Link leaping onto Link's sword during their encounter, a new visual detail for the boss fight. Dark Link, distinct from Shadow Link, is a significant antagonist from the latter half of the N64 classic. The original fight took place in a foggy room with shallow puddles, culminating in the appearance of a shadowy mirror image of Link that attacks without warning. If players attacked too erratically, Dark Link would famously counter by jumping onto Link's sword.

The remake appears to give Dark Link more distinct features, including a Hylian shield with a full crest, suggesting a visual style potentially aligned with recent Smash Bros. interpretations. While the subtle, expectation-subverting nature of the original encounter might require a different approach in the remake, the combat itself is anticipated to be a strong point. Given the streamlined movement and targeting mechanics in the remake, the fight could offer an even more intense experience, drawing parallels to the tense, mirrored duels against Iron Knuckles in Zelda 2.

The remake is scheduled for release on November 5.
