Nintendo has revealed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for the Switch 2 will include new features that extend beyond the core gameplay experience. These additions primarily focus on a physical ocarina instrument that interacts with the game and enhanced functionality through the Nintendo Switch app.
The game will support a real-life ocarina accessory that connects to the console. When players perform notes on this physical instrument, Link in the game will replicate the same melodies. Producer Eiji Aonuma demonstrated this by playing Epona's Song. Players will still have the option to input notes using dedicated controller buttons or by humming into the Switch 2's microphone.
Additionally, the Nintendo Switch app is receiving a significant update for Ocarina of Time. This app feature will include 11 different options, with several detailed during a recent reveal. "Today's Record" will chronologically track player accomplishments with screenshots, akin to achievements, detailing playtime, enemy kills, time spent in areas, item usage, deaths, rupees earned, distance traveled, and grass cut.
The "Gossip Quests" segment within the app will present players with photographs of specific locations they must find in-game. Successfully locating these areas rewards players with points exchangeable for in-game ocarina scores. Some prompts will highlight well-known spots, while others will point to more obscure details, encouraging thorough exploration. Hints are available for those who need assistance.
A digital "Play Ocarina" section in the app will allow players to practice the instrument. It offers guided playback for entire songs or just the beginnings of scores, showing players the exact notes and timing required. Players can also record their own songs and share them with others via QR codes.
The "Ocarina of Time Quiz" will challenge players with 2,000 questions, each requiring an answer within 10 seconds and accompanied by an image. Players can attempt the quiz once daily, with the option to spend 20 Rupees for additional tries. Consecutive correct answers increase "Egg Level" and "Cucco Level" scores.
Other features mentioned but not fully explained include Map, Hall of Fallen Foes, Global Play Data, Photo Studio, Threads of Time, and amiibo functionality.
Nintendo has not yet announced the release date or price for the physical ocarina accessory, stating only that it will be available through the Nintendo Store.
