The Lord of the Rings franchise is expanding its reach to physical media this November with the release of the first two seasons of The Rings of Power on DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Ultra HD. This launch coincides with the highly anticipated arrival of the show's third season on Prime Video.
Amazon MGM Studios and Alliance Home Entertainment have announced that individual disc releases for seasons 1 and 2 will become available on November 3. These sets will include bonus features delving into the making of the series. For collectors, Amazon-exclusive 4K Ultra HD gift sets featuring Steelbook packaging and collectible art cards are set to launch on December 1.
This release schedule positions the physical media availability just before the premiere of The Rings of Power season 3 on November 11. The series, which debuted on Prime Video in September 2022 and was followed by its second season in August 2024, has become a significant draw for the streaming service, attracting over 185 million viewers globally.
Season 3 will advance the narrative with Middle-earth facing an escalating war against Sauron. A key development will be Sauron's recruitment of men who will eventually become the Nazgûl, though the forging of the One Ring remains a future event for the series to explore. The season will also delve into the diverging paths of the elf Elrond and his twin brother, Elros. Robert Aramayo, who plays Elrond, will also portray Elros in a flashback depicting their choice between immortality and mortality, with Elros founding Númenor.
Elrond's journey to Númenor in the present day will be impacted by his brother's legacy, and the series will also introduce Rivendell. The Rings of Power season 3 is set to premiere on Prime Video on November 11, with subsequent episodes releasing through November 25.
