Showtimes for Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" in IMAX 70MM have been extended through September 30, 2026. This decision comes in response to overwhelming public demand, ensuring the film continues its run in the format it was "intended" to be seen for an additional 11 weeks. The extension will be available at 39 theaters globally equipped with the specialized IMAX 70MM format.
Since its premiere on July 17, "The Odyssey" has achieved significant box office success, becoming the highest-grossing IMAX release of all time. The IMAX 70MM screenings alone have generated $66 million globally across the 41 theaters featuring this format. The film was also the first to be shot entirely with IMAX cameras, adding to its technical distinction. To date, "The Odyssey" has surpassed $1.55 billion at the worldwide box office and is projected to continue its strong performance throughout September.
In its review, the film was described as an adaptation that "brings a sense of horror and existential angst to the story – and some humor too." While not deemed a perfect movie, it was celebrated as a "pretty great moviegoing experience."
