The Pokémon World Championships concluded this past Sunday, bringing with it a wave of new announcements regarding the franchise's future. During the closing ceremony, The Pokémon Company shared updates spanning Pokémon Go, the Trading Card Game, and an all-new animated movie.
In Pokémon Go, Mega Evolved Pokémon will soon be eligible to participate in official competitive play, beginning with the Go Fest Mega Finale event on September 5. Additionally, Armored Mewtwo is set to return to the game for the first time in six years.
The Pokémon Trading Card Game will receive a new set, tentatively titled TKTK, which will introduce cards featuring Mega Evolutions. These will include Mega Evolutions originally seen in Legends: Z-A, alongside Legendary Beasts. A new card type called 'ex star' was also revealed, though specific details remain undisclosed.
A new animated film, "Pokémon Wild Card," was announced. This movie appears to draw heavy inspiration from the Trading Card Game and features Mimikyu in its teaser. This marks the first new Pokémon movie in seven years, with a planned release in 2027.
For the Pokémon battle simulator, now known as Pokémon Champions, a new trailer showcased upcoming Pokémon additions. Z Mega Evolutions for Absol and Lucario, as well as Mega Heatran, are slated to join the roster on September 9.
Looking ahead, Singapore has been confirmed as the host for the 2027 Pokémon World Championships, scheduled to take place from August 13 to 15. Notably absent from the announcements was any update on the Winds and Waves RPGs, which were initially revealed on Pokémon Day in February and are expected to launch next year.
