Electronic Arts is set to release a free base game patch for The Sims 4 on July 21, introducing a long-requested auto-save feature and other improvements designed to enhance game stability and performance. This update addresses persistent issues that have plagued players, particularly concerning save file corruption and data loss.
The new patch will implement an auto-save function, allowing players to customize the frequency of automatic saves through the game's settings. In addition to auto-saves, the update will introduce save reminders to prompt players to manually save their progress more regularly. These features are intended to mitigate the risk of losing hours of gameplay due to unexpected crashes or save errors.
A significant component of the upcoming patch is the "Memory Boost" feature. This new system aims to improve how The Sims 4 manages system memory, which EA states should lead to a smoother gameplay experience with reduced lag, better frame rates, increased responsiveness, and fewer memory-related crashes. The benefits are expected to be most noticeable during extended play sessions, in larger households, on extensively decorated lots, and with older save files.
While not exclusively a save-fixing tool, Memory Boost has shown potential in addressing certain save-related problems. EA reported that during testing, some players experiencing issues like missing lot data were able to recover their affected content after enabling Memory Boost and loading their game. The company emphasized that while Memory Boost may not resolve all save issues, its enhanced memory management capabilities can contribute to overall save stability.
These changes are part of EA's ongoing commitment to addressing long-standing issues within The Sims 4. The developer also announced plans for a further quality-of-life update scheduled for September, which will focus on improving Sim autonomy. This update aims to make non-player characters behave more intelligently, consistently, and responsively during gameplay, furthering EA's goal of making The Sims 4 a more reliable and enjoyable experience.
