The Disney Plus series VisionQuest has continued its trend of incorporating Marvel Easter eggs, with the latest episodes featuring a surprise appearance from The Watcher. This cosmic entity, known for observing the universe's events, made a fleeting cameo in the sixth episode, titled "Deadlock."
The brief appearance occurs around the 32:41 mark during a confrontation between Vision and Raza Hamidmi al-Wazar. As the Client intervenes through a television display, The Watcher's silhouette and glowing eyes can be glimpsed in a doorway. Showrunner Terry Matalas humorously confirmed the cameo on X (formerly Twitter), posting "Good eye. Or ... eyes."
In Marvel lore, Watchers are an ancient race responsible for chronicling cosmic history. Uatu, the most prominent Watcher, first appeared in the MCU in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. He also narrated the animated series What If...? and has made appearances in X-Men '97 and Daredevil: Born Again. While Uatu is typically bound by an oath not to interfere with planetary affairs, his presence in VisionQuest could suggest significant narrative implications.
Given Ultron's prominent role in VisionQuest, some viewers might recall the events of the What If...? season 1 episode "What If...Ultron Won?" In that story, Ultron becomes aware of The Watcher, leading to a multiversal conflict. However, Ultron's threat in What If...? stemmed from his acquisition of the Infinity Stones. Without a similar power boost in VisionQuest, a direct confrontation between Ultron and The Watcher in live-action appears unlikely.
