Pop superstar Abel Tesfaye, known to fans as The Weeknd, has achieved a form of digital redemption by successfully romancing a character in Persona 3 Reload, a modern remake of the PlayStation 2 classic. This success comes after Tesfaye previously documented his playthrough of Persona 5, where he notably fumbled his pursuit of Tae Takemi, a character often referred to as the goth doctor.

Tesfaye, who has been sharing updates on his gaming experiences via his alternate Instagram account @gene.hackerman, posted about his romance with Mitsuru Kirijo in Persona 3 Reload. The game itself has been lauded for its visual and gameplay enhancements, recapturing the emotional journey of its high school protagonists navigating the procedurally generated dungeon known as Tartarus. Persona 3 was instrumental in establishing the social simulation elements that have become a hallmark of the series, including the option to pursue romantic relationships with various characters through their social links.

Atlus, the developer behind the Persona series, has taken notice of Tesfaye's engagement with the franchise. He was reportedly invited to play an early version of Persona 4 Arena Ultimax and received a sneak peek at Persona 6 prior to its official announcement during Summer Game Fest. While these opportunities highlight the artist's notable interest in the games, they do not change the outcome of his Persona 5 playthrough.
