A new mod for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is breathing new life into a beloved in-game meme. Titled "Low-Poly Pigeon – The Revenge," the mod replaces every griffon in the game with a colossal version of the famously low-polygon pigeon that became an unofficial mascot following the game's next-gen update in 2022. The modder, grapedia, stated in its description that the pigeon, a subject of internet jokes and memes, has finally reached its breaking point.
Initially, players believed the next-gen update had polished the pigeon asset alongside other game elements. Tributes to the "low-poly pigeon" went viral as fans mourned what they thought was its demise. However, while ground-dwelling pigeons received graphical enhancements, those in flight retained their distinctively lo-fi appearance. This near-loss inspired grapedia to create a mod that celebrates the meme in a fittingly grand way.
"Every griffin encounter, every hunt and every supposedly terrifying aerial attack is now carried out by the same bird you once laughed at," grapedia explained. The mod also replaces griffon sound effects with pigeon coos, allowing players to be calmly announced before an attack. The modder further noted that while the pigeon could not fight back against internet mockery, it now has "claws, wings, several thousand hit points and absolutely nothing left to lose" within the game's Northern Realms.
Players have responded positively to the mod, with one user on Nexus Mods commenting, "Never even knew this meme was a thing until now but this is peak." Another player quipped, "Witcher 3 finally playable."
