CD Projekt Red has announced a free next-generation update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, scheduled for release on September 29th. This update will include a full remaster of the base game, along with both of its major expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

The remaster brings a suite of visual and gameplay enhancements. Players can expect upgraded visuals, with improved lighting that brings the game up to current standards. Other improvements target combat, including new finishers, as well as enhancements to character movement and mount handling. Geralt's Witcher signs are also set to receive a visual boost, and monster behaviors have been described as "enhanced."

Beyond graphical and combat refinements, the update introduces significant new features. A revamped skill tree aims to offer players more strategic options, and the addition of transmogrification will allow players to apply the stats of their preferred armor pieces while maintaining the appearance of their chosen gear. The game's photo mode is also being expanded. Under-the-hood improvements include ray tracing enhancements, new accessibility features, UI refinements, and a more robust quest tracking system.

The inclusion of the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions as part of this free update makes it a particularly comprehensive package. This marks the second major upgrade for The Witcher 3, with a previous update having been released in 2022. CD Projekt Red appears to be providing this substantial free content to engage players while development continues on The Witcher 4, which is reportedly targeting a 2028 release.
