The Witcher 3 Remaster Sees Player Count Surge Past 137,000 on Steam

Millions of players are returning to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt following the release of its remastered edition, with the game setting a new personal best for concurrent players on Steam. The overhaul has not only drawn back veteran players but also attracted a significant number of new ones.

According to SteamDB, The Witcher 3 reached a peak of 137,724 concurrent players on Sunday, October 4th, surpassing its previous record of 120,000. This figure represents a substantial increase since the game's initial launch in 2015, when it garnered 92,000 concurrent players. The game also experienced a notable surge in January 2020, reaching 103,000 players, coinciding with the popularity of The Witcher Netflix series.

These Steam player counts do not account for console players, suggesting that the total number of active players across PC, PlayStation, and Xbox is considerably higher. Analyst Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics reported that The Witcher 3 saw approximately 2.4 million daily active users across PC and PlayStation and Xbox shortly after the remastered edition's release. Elliott also noted that the game sold an additional 130,000 copies on September 30th, the highest single-day sales since a previous discount in summer 2024. With the game currently on sale for $24.99 across platforms, this generated nearly $3 million in revenue for that day alone.

These recent sales figures bring The Witcher 3's lifetime sales to over 66 million copies. The free remastered upgrade significantly modernizes the game's visuals, improving textures and animations, and also overhauls the game's skill system. While the update is considered a generous offering, CD Projekt Red is actively releasing hotfixes to address some initial issues concerning lighting and other elements.
