CD Projekt Red has confirmed that the upcoming remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will officially incorporate elements from a widely acclaimed fan-made mod. The developer announced during Gamescom Opening Night Live that the remaster, set for release on September 29 for PC and consoles, will include improvements to combat, monster AI, traversal, and graphics.
HalkHogan, the creator of the The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project NextGen Edition, revealed that their work is being officially integrated into the game. "HDRP will no longer be needed," HalkHogan stated in an update on Nexus Mods. "My work will be officially available in the game."
The HD Reworked Project has been a staple in the modding community for years, meticulously upgrading the game's visual assets. The project encompasses thousands of changes to textures, models, materials, and shaders, aiming to enhance detail and realism while staying true to CD Projekt Red's original artistic vision. According to the mod's description, numerous character and environmental assets have been reworked.
This fan-made mod has garnered significant attention, with over 326,000 unique downloads and 1.6 million views on Nexus Mods. The integration means players who have used the mod will not need to maintain it separately once the remaster is released. The remaster itself will be a free upgrade for existing owners across Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
