The Witcher 3 Remastered is set to release on September 29, CD PROJEKT RED announced at gamescom Opening Night Live. The remaster will be a free upgrade for all existing owners of the game on PC via GOG, Steam, and Epic Games Store, as well as for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S players. The upgrade includes the "Hearts of Stone" and "Blood and Wine" expansions.
Owners of The Witcher 3 on Nintendo Switch 1 will be able to receive a free upgrade to the Switch 2 version when it launches on September 29. A new partnership between CD PROJEKT RED and Blizzard Entertainment also brings The Witcher 3 Remastered to Battle.net. Purchasing the game on Battle.net will unlock a Geralt-themed cosmetic skin in Diablo 4.
This enhanced version of The Witcher 3 features a range of improvements. Players can expect upgraded visuals, animations, and combat mechanics, alongside better movement and mount handling. Enemy behaviors have also been refined. Additional changes include a revamped skill tree, new visual effects for Witcher Signs, and an expanded photo mode. The remaster also introduces cross-platform mod support, alongside updates to quest tracking, accessibility features, and the user interface, with HDR and ray-tracing enhancements.
New Expansion and Sequel Tease
A new paid expansion, "Songs of the Past," is currently in development with Fool's Theory. Revealed in a teaser trailer at Opening Night Live, this expansion will introduce a new region called Letten, new weapons like a chain, and additional monsters. "Songs of the Past" is described as Geralt's final adventure before Ciri takes the lead in the sequel. CD PROJEKT RED stated that the expansion will be comparable in size to the "Blood and Wine" expansion, aiming to satisfy players until the release of The Witcher 4.
