The Witcher 3 Remastered Forces WAR Project Mod to Pivot, Promises 'Something Extra'

The recent remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has necessitated an adjustment period for the game's robust modding community. The ambitious WAR Project, which aims to restore a cut plague-themed questline, will not function immediately with the updated version of the game. However, the modders behind this effort have confirmed that this is a temporary setback and have promised additional content in the upcoming update.

Developers of the WAR Project stated that the significant changes introduced with the remaster mean the mod will require updates to function. They revealed that they have been in direct contact with CD Projekt Red and Yigsoft for several months, assisting with testing both the remaster and the mod.io integration prior to the game's release. This collaboration has provided them with familiarity with the remaster's additions and improvements, leading them to believe the update process will not be excessively lengthy.

In addition to ensuring the mod's compatibility with the remastered game, the team plans to include "something extra" in the update. This extra content is expected to involve English voice acting, a feature originally intended for a later phase of the project. The modders had initially planned a smaller update for mid-September, which would have included existing quests, numerous fixes, and English voiceovers for the first phase. A subsequent release, approximately two months later, is slated to introduce four new quests, two remade quests, and two mini quests.

Once updated to be compatible with the Remastered version, the WAR Project mod will exclusively support this newer iteration of the game. The demo version of the WAR Project, released in June, currently features four of the twelve planned quests, with four more in active development. The modders have also indicated a full release of their expanded content is anticipated around 2027. This long-term development timeline follows a previous challenge where the modders had to recast the voice actor for Vernon Roche due to an alleged incident of misconduct.
