The recent announcement of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered at Gamescom's Opening Night Live event was a welcome surprise, with CD Projekt Red's global community and social media director, Marcin Momot, highlighting his satisfaction that the reveal managed to avoid leaks. "Reveals just hit different when they don't leak," Momot stated on social media, indicating that the element of surprise significantly enhanced the impact of the announcement.
While CD Projekt Red has consistently updated the 2015 title over the years, a full remaster had long been a subject of player requests that had not materialized until now. The remastered version is slated for release on September 29. This updated edition is expected to incorporate improvements that will also be integrated into the upcoming Songs of the Past expansion, scheduled for 2027. A notable enhancement among the remaster's features will be the long-awaited ability for players to pet the dog.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt remains one of the best-selling video games of all time, having sold over 65 million copies. Looking ahead, CD Projekt Red is developing a new trilogy of Witcher games, with The Witcher 4 set to launch in 2028. This new installment will shift the narrative focus to Ciri, departing from Geralt as the primary protagonist. In addition to these major projects, the studio is also working on Cyberpunk 2, a multiplayer game set in The Witcher universe, and a mobile title in partnership with Scopely.
