CD Projekt Red has announced that both of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's major expansions, Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone, are now completely free for players. This move comes just ahead of the game's upcoming remastered edition.

Blood and Wine, which typically costs $19.99, adds dozens of hours of content. Hearts of Stone, the first expansion, offers a smaller but significant amount of gameplay for $9.99. These are in addition to the 16 smaller DLC packs that were previously released for free. While the prices were already considered a good value, the offer of the expansions at no cost is a notable surprise.

The Witcher 3 Remastered Details

The free DLC offer coincides with the impending release of The Witcher 3 Remastered, scheduled for September 29. This enhanced version promises upgraded visuals, with CD Projekt Red stating Geralt will "never look better." The remaster is set to include a variety of improvements, such as combat enhancements, better traversal options, and refined mount handling. Monster AI has been fine-tuned, and the skill tree has undergone a revamp. The game will also feature an expanded photo mode, an all-new tutorial, and reworked looting and quest tracking systems.

Fans have reacted positively to the news, with many expressing disbelief at the generosity of CD Projekt Red. Comments on social media platforms like Reddit and YouTube highlight surprise at receiving free content in the current gaming landscape.

Platform Availability

Players can claim the free Blood and Wine and Hearts of Stone expansions by visiting their respective digital storefronts. However, this offer does not extend to the Nintendo Switch version of the game. While Switch owners will not receive the free DLC, a native version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Remastered is slated for release on the Nintendo Switch 2. Updates for the remastered edition are also confirmed for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
