CD Projekt Red has confirmed that its upcoming expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, titled 'Songs of the Past,' will include more of the highly popular in-game card game, Gwent. This announcement has generated significant excitement among fans who have long cherished the strategic minigame.

Gwent, which first debuted within The Witcher 3 upon its 2015 release, quickly became a standout feature. The game involves players engaging in fast-paced duels that blend skill, bluffing, and careful deck construction, played over a series of rounds. Its popularity led to a standalone spinoff in 2017 and a real-life tabletop version.

The confirmation of Gwent's return came from CD Projekt Red's community and social media manager, Marcin Łukaszewski, who responded to a player's wish for more Gwent in the expansion with a simple "Confirmed!" on X/Twitter.

'Songs of the Past' is slated for release in 2027, marking a significant gap since the game's last major expansion, 'Blood and Wine,' which launched in 2016. CD Projekt Red has described the upcoming add-on as a full-fledged story expansion that will serve as a prologue to the game. While the expansion's primary focus will be on its narrative content, the inclusion of Gwent provides an additional draw for long-time players eager for more tabletop challenges.

CD Projekt Red is also reportedly on track to launch 'The Witcher 4' sometime in 2028. Further details about 'Songs of the Past' are expected to be revealed less than 24 hours from the announcement, during gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live.
