CD Projekt Red has revealed new details about The Witcher 3's forthcoming Songs of the Past expansion, confirming that players will finally be able to pet dogs in the game. This long-awaited feature was not present in the original 2015 release, though Geralt has been able to interact with horses. The ability to pet dogs is expected to be part of the wider enhancements included with the upcoming remaster of The Witcher 3, which is slated for release on September 29.

Songs of the Past, scheduled to launch in 2027, marks The Witcher 3's third major expansion, following Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine. The expansion will place players back in the role of Geralt as he confronts "never-before-seen foes" and battles a "long-dormant evil" within a new region known as Letten. A trailer for the expansion was recently shown at Gamescom.

The upcoming remaster is also set to introduce improvements to visuals, performance, and gameplay. It is presumed that the ability to interact with canine companions will be a universal addition across the updated game, rather than being exclusive to the Songs of the Past expansion.
