CD Projekt Red has unveiled the first gameplay trailer for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's "Songs of the Past" expansion during Gamescom's 2026 Opening Night Live. The expansion, which marks the first new content for the 2015 title in years, received a gameplay demonstration that highlighted a new region, narrative elements, and a unique weapon.

The trailer depicted scenes of a Midsommar-style festival, lush swamplands, and a mysterious tree creature. This creature beckons Geralt to "Delve into darkness and see the truth of Letten's beauty," introducing the name of the game's new region.

Letten is described in a press release as "idyllic" and "rich in rural tradition and folklore," with inhabitants enjoying "a fulfilling life of bountiful harvests and lavish festivals." However, a "dark secret lurks just beneath the surface," and Geralt will face "never-before-seen foes" as he confronts a "long-dormant evil."

The gameplay segment concluded with Geralt wielding a novel chain-like weapon. CD Projekt Red level design lead Miles Tost confirmed in a follow-up interview that this weapon appeared in the introduction of the studio's first Witcher game. The weapon allows Geralt to pull enemies closer for an instant beheading.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past is scheduled for release next year on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC. A version for the original Switch has not been mentioned. This announcement follows the recent reveal that The Witcher 4 is slated for a 2028 release and will feature a playable Ciri. Additionally, a game called The Blood of Dawnwalker, developed by former Witcher creators, has received an update.

Alongside the "Songs of the Past" expansion news, it was also revealed that a free remaster of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be available in just over a month.
